BREAKING NEWS

ANZ management has just released information about its new policy on energy finance.

It says:
"We will only support coal-fired power plants that demonstrate the capacity for improved carbon emissions performance over time..."

Unfortunately, it's completely unclear what this means for Australia.

ANZ has missed a key opportunity to meet community expectations and stay in line with competitors, like HSBC and BNP Paribas, who have ruled out financing new coal power plants in Australia that don't meet strict standards. ANZ’s new energy policy wants to look like it has responded to growing pressure to stop financing controversial coal power, while avoiding that commitment.

Tell ANZ management that you want a clear answer: will ANZ rule out financing more coal power in Australia?

G’day ANZ employee – welcome

You can help us create a clean energy future
ANZ is big on appearing green (love the HQ, by the way). But the bank is not putting its money where its mouth is. As an employee you’re in a unique position to create positive change.

Why ANZ?

It’s the biggest financer of polluting coal power in Australia. The first step to solving climate change is to stop building new coal power stations – yet there are a number on the cards across Australia. If ANZ says it won’t finance them, it’s much less likely they’ll be built.

Why you?
Even if it doesn’t feel like it, your bosses listen to you. Staff like you helped ANZ to finally stop financing cluster bombs. You also played a huge role in persuading ANZ to end its support for the Gunns pulp mill in Tassie. Now it’s time for ANZ to know that staff support investments in renewable energy – but not in coal.

What else can you do?
Spread the word that new coal power stations are not the way to go. Talk to your colleagues. Email your manager. Put up a flyer. Embrace the suggestions box. Write about it in the staff survey. Leave a love letter. Your bosses encourage feedback and are keen to know what staff think about green issues.

PS. Have you seen our cheeky campaign video? Or watched this interview with a local about the true cost of coal?

It’s your bank – you can help change it.
